Our advanced veterinary procedures
At Beehive, we provide a full range of advanced veterinary procedures, combining the latest technology with expert clinical care:
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Our minimally invasive surgeries, including laparoscopic spays, retained or undescended testicle (cryptorchid) procedures, and biopsies, use a specialised surgical camera instead of traditional open surgery. These “keyhole” techniques require only tiny incisions of 0.5–1 cm, resulting in smaller wounds, less pain, and much faster recovery for your pet.
Orthopaedic Surgery
We perform advanced orthopaedic procedures on site, including fracture repairs, cruciate ligament repair, patella luxation correction, and femoral head excision arthroplasty. Our team uses modern techniques to restore mobility and improve quality of life.
Soft Tissue Surgery
Our soft tissue expertise covers complex procedures such as brachycephalic airway surgery (BOAS), ear surgeries (TECA/LBO), large skin tumour removals and reconstructions, gastric dilatation and volvulus (GDV), abdominal surgery (including splenectomy and gastrointestinal foreign body removal), and treatment of salivary mucocoeles.

Poor Maya, a beautiful cockapoo, had been suffering with chronic ear problems for years.
Management with ear drops and antibiotics helped but ultimately the problem just came back again and worse each time. After discussion with her owner, it was decided that the best option would be a surgical procedure to remove the infected ear canal and also the infected lining of the middle ear, a common cause of recurrence in longstanding ear infections like Maya’s.
Maya came to Beehive for staged procedures with Luke, with each ear operated on a different day. She made a full recovery and suffered no more issues once everything had healed up. This is a procedure that is reserved for advanced ear disease that is not responsive to medical management, but it can be a night and day difference for those poor animals that struggle daily with chronic ear infections.
Luna, a lovely french bulldog, came to see us at Beehive as she had developed a large, soft swelling under her jaw. A sample of the mass revealed thick, stringy fluid consistent with saliva.
This was very likely to be a salivary mucocoele, a condition that can be seen in dogs where the salivary duct is damaged, saliva leaks into the surrounding tissue and leads to the formation of a large cyst-like structure. Treatment is to remove the salivary glands producing the saliva in the mucucoele. This is an advanced procedure as very good knowledge of the anatomical structure in the area is needed to ensure all salivary tissue is removed without damaging any delicate nerves or blood vessels.
Michael performed the procedure at the practice and Luna made a full recovery, with no further swelling from the affected gland. This condition can be caused by trauma to the salivary duct, although can also occur spontaneously, through damage to the salivary duct by salivary stones (sialoliths) that can form and damage the ducts. Appropriate surgical treatment cures the condition and dogs do fine without their salivary gland as they have several others to take up the slack.
