Pet Cardiology Services at Beehive Vets
Why choose Beehive Vets for your pets heart health?
To ensure your pet is receiving the best care, our resident cardiologist at Beehive Vets, Luke, brings specialised expertise in veterinary cardiology.
Luke leads our focus on the early detection and monitoring of heart disease, using a range of diagnostic tools including blood tests, ECGs, x-rays, and echocardiography to ensure the best possible outcomes for your pet.
At Beehive, we are continually striving to improve, through ongoing professional development, advanced qualifications, state-of-the-art equipment, and rigorous practice certifications such as our gold-level cat-friendly clinic status and tier 2 RCVS accreditation.
Our cardiology services
Our cardiology imaging services allow us to look deeper than a physical examination alone, helping us detect heart problems early.
Cardiac Examinations
We begin every consultation by listening to your concerns before carrying out a thorough clinical exam. Early heart disease can be subtle, but murmurs, rhythm changes, and signs such as lethargy, reduced exercise, weight loss, or breathing issues can all be identified during assessment.
Advanced Cardiac Diagnostics
We use a range of advanced tools to assess heart health, including:
Echocardiography: Non-invasive heart ultrasound to assess structure and function.
Digital X-rays: Gold standard for detecting congestive heart failure.
ECG: Records heart rhythms to diagnose electrical abnormalities.
Holter Monitoring: 42–72 hour ECG for intermittent symptoms.
Surgery & Advanced Procedures
We can perform certain procedures on-site, such as draining fluid from around the lungs or abdomen. More complex interventions, including pacemakers, congenital defect correction, and balloon valvoplasty, are referred to a specialist. Our qualified RVNs create tailored sedation or anaesthetic plans, supported by advanced monitoring for safety.
Ongoing Heart Disease Management
We provide continuing care through regular scans, blood tests, and examinations. Medication is often essential to improve quality and length of life, and for complex cases, we collaborate with specialist cardiologists to ensure your pet receives the highest level of expertise.
How cardiology services benefit your pet
Early detection of heart disease gives pets the best chance of prevention or successful treatment, including correction of congenital conditions. Cats, even with advanced disease, often show no symptoms, making regular screening vital, and blood thinners can help prevent serious complications like clots.
At Beehive Vets, our state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment, including four dedicated probes, allows us to safely scan pets of all sizes, from tiny kittens to large breed dogs.
Wherever possible, treatment is provided close to home to reduce stress, shorten hospital stays, and make visits easier for both pets and owners.
Meet our cardiologist
Luke has extensive experience performing ultrasound scans and completed a two-year training program in small animal cardiology, earning a certification to enable him to provide the best care for your pets.
Our entire clinical team plays a key role in screening, often detecting heart murmurs or arrhythmias during routine exams or anaesthetic monitoring, which are then referred to Luke for expert assessment.
